The list of nominees for the 84th annual Academy Awards were announced this week!
Two of my favourite films of the year – Martin Scorsese’s Hugo and Michel Hazanavicius’s The Artist – are leading the Race to the Oscars with 10 and 11 nominations each.
The Best Picture category is a crowded cluster of films, including War Horse, The Artist, Moneyball, The Descendants, The Tree of Life, Midnight in Paris, The Help, Hugo, and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. Having already seen 5 out of the 9 nominees, I believe that I am in pretty good shape this awards season!
My one gripe is that The Adventures of Tintin failed to receive a nomination in the Best Animated Feature category, seeing as the movie just won Best Animated Film at the Golden Globes. That being said, the only animated feature nominee that I’ve seen is Kung Fu Panda 2.
Here’s to hoping that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Midnight in Paris, The Muppets and Jane Eyre win some statuettes in the groups they are nominated in!
