American Idol Season XIII Finale: Jena Irene vs. Caleb Johnson

American Idol Top 2: Jena Irene & Caleb Johnson

This is it, American Idol fans! Season XIII Finale Week! Tonight, the Top 2 contenders, Jena Irene and Caleb Johnson competed for the coveted title at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. It was a raging war between the season’s resident rock royalty, who sang three songs each (Simon Fuller’s Choice, their Favourite Performance, and their original Winner’s Single) to make their case on why they should be the next American Idol.

Idol‘s Rock ‘N’ Roll Queen Jena Irene opened the show with a energetic performance of Florence + The Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over“, poured out her heart and soul with her emotional piano rendition of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love“, and debuted her upbeat first single, “We Are One” (which sounds reminiscent of a Kelly Clarkson-Demi Lovato-Katy Perry hybrid).

Idol’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Viking Caleb Johnson went wild with an electrifying version of Aerosmith’s “Dream On” (and yes, he did hit that high note at the end), sang the life out of Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed“, and closed out the night with his cool debut single, “As Long As You Love Me” (written by Justin Hawkins of The Darkness).

As promised, Jena and Caleb delivered a set of phenomenal performances in what was one of the closest Idol finale races in years. Even the judges could not determine a winner by the evening’s end.

Will it be the Wild Card or the Wild Child? It’s your vote, America! (Oh boy, have you got your work cut out for you!)
