My American Idol dream is finally coming true! For the first time in the show’s history, there are five females in the Top 5, which means…

A GIRL WILL WIN AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 12!

As I had written in a blog post a few weeks ago, the Season 12 Girls Rule the competition, and since then, this has proven to be the absolute truth by the Idol fans who have voted them into the top tier! The opposite has been the case since I started watching the show in Season 7 (with David Cook leading the pack of five male winners in a row). After Cook’s win, I have been wishing for an amazing female to be named the next American Idol, but have seen my hopes dashed every season. Even though it has taken a loooong time to get to this point of female domination, that feeling of frustration has evaporated, as this all-girls Top 5 could not have come at a better time in my life.

Why is a girl winner such a big deal to me?

I first entered this whole Idol world back in 2008 (which was five years ago this month) and life hasn’t been the same ever since. I have had great experiences, met and/or conversed with wonderful people, and learned many important things about music and life in general through Idol. This show, the singers, the songs, and the fans have been a constant in my life – giving me the inspiration and joy I needed to get through university. Now that that chapter is drawing to a close, I’ll finally get to see Idol crown the fifth Idol Queen in May – five seasons after I began watching.

Who do I want to see win?

I am rooting for Candice Glover (whose amazing performance of The Cure’s “Lovesong” this week was one of my Top 5 favourite Idol moments of all time) and Kree Harrison (whose voice is positively stunning). Janelle Arthur, Amber Holcomb, and Angie Miller are all incredibly talented as well, so really, I would be happy to see any of these girls take it all!

The way I see it, this fabulous five represents the fallen female contestants of the past five years, as they all possess the vocal power, the creative artistry, and the fighting spirit of some of the greatest Idol ladies. This is for Syesha Mercado, Brooke White, Carly Smithson, Allison Iraheta, Megan Joy, Crystal Bowersox, Siobhan Magnus, Didi Benami, Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart, Pia Toscano, Jessica Sanchez, Hollie Cavanagh, Skylar Laine, Elise Testone, Erika Van Pelt, and more… the binder list of ladies is miles long. This is a victory for all of the women of Idol, so let us raise a High FIVE for Team Girl Power!
