Carrie Underwood’s “See You Again”

Carrie Underwood believes in looking for the good after goodbye in her latest single, “See You Again“.

Taking a departure from the darker themes of “Blown Away” and “Two Black Cadillacs“, “See You Again” is a sentimental ballad about the heartache of saying goodbye to someone you care about. The resolve to hold on to those special memories that allow their legacy to carry on with you is echoed in the poignant line, “this is not where it ends”.

The music video features emotional footage of people experiencing life’s most significant moments – from graduations and special celebrations, to death and heartbreaking partings – and dealing with the difficulty of saying goodbye.

The song is very timely and relevant in regards to current events, with tributes to Sandy Hook and returning soldiers within the music video (and also, Carrie’s recent performance of “See You Again” at the 2013 CMT Music Awards in dedication to the tornado victims in Oklahoma).

At the center of it all, Carrie, who sings in the glow of bright lights, is a symbol of  hope and optimism. In the face of loss, “See You Again” reflects on the notion that we must hold on to the memories of the loved ones who are no longer in our presence and look forward to the day when we will be reunited together.

I can hear those echoes in the wind at night
Calling me back in time
Back to you
In a place far away
Where the water meets the sky
The thought of it makes me smile
You are my tomorrow
