Tunesday: June 2015

On TUNESDAY, I share some of the songs, music videos, and live performances I’ve been groovin’ to. Here are my top jams from June…

Brian Wilson – On The Island (feat. She & Him)
The soothing throwback sounds of She & Him are a perfect companion to the Beach Boy himself, Brian Wilson. This duet from Wilson’s latest solo studio album, No Pier Pressure, encapsulates the ultimate tropical summertime vibe. Kick back, relax, and enjoy.

Florence + The Machine – Queen Of Peace
Known for her ethereal, free-spirited nature, Florence Welch’s newest release with Florence + The Machine, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, packs more of a powerful (and pain-driven) punch, establishing her as the Queen of Emotion, along with the “Queen of Peace”.

Adam Lambert – Evil In The Night
Glam rocker Adam Lambert reveals his deep, vulnerable side with The Original High, an EDM-centric pop album featuring stellar collaborations with Tove Lo (“Rumors“) and Queen’s Brian May (“Lucy“). In today’s music scene, timing is everything, and if current-sounding tracks like “Evil In The Night” are any indication, this is now Lambert’s time.

Kacey Musgraves – Biscuits
This straight-talkin’, pot-stirrin’, and totally chill alt-country gal has landed another winning streak with her sophomore effort, Pageant Material. Reminiscent of the open-minded”Follow Your Arrow” from Same Trailer, Different Park, the leading single advises everyone to just “mind your own biscuits… then life will be gravy!”

Tori Kelly – Expensive (feat. Daye Jack)
June was truly on a roll with awesome album releases, including Unbreakable Smile, the debut album from emerging R&B/Pop singer-songwriter, Tori Kelly. Her insane vocal prowess is showcased in the incredibly catchy and bumpin’ track, “Expensive”. After seeing her in concert in Vancouver at the beginning of the month, I can confirm that Tori is as down-to-earth and downright cool as they come.

Us The Duo – Better Together
I was first introduced to folk-pop duo Us The Duo when they opened for Tori’s show, and was hooked after I heard their show-stopping rendition of Meghan Trainor & John Legend’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You“. Michael and Carissa Alvarado are totally married, totally talented, and totally adorable, as you can gather from their cute as heck music video for their cover of Jack Johnson’s “Better Together“.

Ed Sheeran – Photograph
As one of music’s most in-demand artists, songwriters, and touring acts (just selling out stadiums like Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on a nightly basis, no biggie), Ed Sheeran shows no signs of slowing down after releasing his mega-successful album x, just one year ago. That being said, his heartfelt music video for “Photograph” provides a touching retrospective of his fondest childhood memories. I dare you not to smile (impossible).
