With the Oscars being known for awarding fine talent and achievements in film-making, it is also one of the biggest nights for fashion! Our writers Elizabeth and Tania team up to highlight some of their personal favorites of the best dressed from the 85th Annual Academy Awards, and who takes top honors with the best look of the evening.
The Dolby Theater lit up with the best of Hollywood, as the industry’s elite hit the red carpet this past Sunday wearing top designers and showcasing the latest trends and colors for the season. There were many classic trends that celebrities turned out in with dramatic trains, gun metals, glittery ensembles, flowing pastels with soft tones and hues, tousled hair or goddess curls bordering Veronica Lake, and styles straight out of Downton Abbey. It was a night full of glitz and glamour with a romantic golden era twinkle.
The 85th Academy Awards are this Sunday and as Oscar watchers wait with baited breath to find out which nominees take home the golden statue, here at The Hudsucker we try our hand at predicting the winners in some of the major categories. A few of our lovely writers and resident cinephiles – Drew Bryce, Karen Datangel, Bo Dietrick, Cathie Dillard, Katherine Hernandez, Tania Hussain, and Elizabeth The – also share their thoughts on who they’d vote for if they were members of the Academy and who they feel got snubbed.
As I have expressed in my previous posts on the Golden Globes, 2011 was one of my favourite years for film. On this Oscar Sunday, the 84th Annual Academy Awards brought this incredible 2012 awards season to a close, giving Hollywood one last chance to recognize the great cinematic achievements of the past year.

As host LL Cool J said at the opening of the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, the night was about something truly universal and healing – music. Devastated by the passing of Whitney Houston (to whom this year’s ceremony is dedicated to), the music community paid their respects to the late, great vocalist by letting the beat go on. The music-makers celebrated this past year by recognizing the achievements of their fellow artists and by creating some of the finest and most memorable Grammy moments in the show’s history.
