Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty’s Latest SMASH

Two of my favourite things in life are musicals and Marilyn Monroe. What could be a more winning combination than a musical about Marilyn Monroe? On NBC’s new drama-musical, SMASH, two writers, Julia and Tom (Debra Messing and Christian Borle), a producer, Eileen (Anjelica Huston) and a director, Derek (Jack Davenport) are determined to launch the next Broadway hit by showcasing the life of one of Hollywood’s most legendary actresses.

Puppy Bowl VIII

Superbowl Sunday may be the sporting event of the year, but its friendly and furry parody, Puppy Bowl VIII, provides the most aww-inducing spectacle of the year for animal lovers across the globe!

Animal Planet’s annual Puppy Bowl features a cast of all-star critters. On the sidelines are the Chicken Cheerleaders and the Piggie Pep Squad to rev up positive energy for the players. To elevate the fan experience, a crew of Hamster Pilot work hard to give a Bird’s Eye View of the action below from the Icebreaker’s Blimp, while Meep the Bird tweets his commentary of the game to his Twitter followers. At the halfway mark, fabulous felines provide entertainment in the form of the Kitty Halftime Show.

The stars of the stadium, the Pedigree Pups, make up the starting line-ups, and each of the canines have their own cute and clever names and claims to fame. The hyperactive hounds score touchdowns with the balls and chew toys on the field – that is, if they don’t get distracted by the refreshing bowls of water first!

This season’s MVP Pooch Performer was rewarded to Fumble, the Chihuahua/Terrier Mix whose great enthusiasm on the field enabled him to make outstanding goals throughout the game. What is Fumble’s fun fact? He has every Bow Wow song on his iPawd!

Two of my other favourite players are siblings Aberdeen and Abileen, the Australian Shepherd Mixes whose tail wagging determination led them to great triumphs!

All of the puppies on the Starting Line-up are shelter rescues. Learn more about animal adoption by checking out these Animal Planet resources.

Remembering Etta James

The first time I can recall hearing “At Last” and really listening to the song was during a scene in Pleasantville, where the teenagers are at Lover’s Lane, with the fields coloured with fresh flowers in full bloom. Since then, I’ve always associated that image of the cherry blossoms blowing in the wind on a Spring afternoon with Etta James’s beautiful ballad on the joy of finally finding your one true love.

“At Last” is a favourite for couples in love, for hopeless romantics, for sentimentalists who long for the sweet sounds of yesteryear, and for the countless musicians who are inspired by Etta.

Etta James has left behind a lasting legacy with her timeless, soulful voice. Thank you for giving us one of the greatest love songs of all time.

Rest peacefully, songbird.

You smiled and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine, at last

Highlights from the 2012 Golden Globes

I enjoyed watching tonight’s award ceremony! I thought that 2012 was a good year for movies in particular (especially in the Comedy or Musical genre) so I was looking forward to seeing some of my favourite films get the recognition they so deserve.

Highlights of the evening: The Artist winning Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical (Jean DuJardin) and Best Score. The Adventures of Tintin being named Best Animated Film, Martin Scorsese winning Best Director for Hugo, Woody Allen winning Best Screenplay for Midnight in Paris, Michelle Williams winning Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for My Week With Marilyn, Queen Meryl Streep winning Best Actress in a Drama for The Iron Lady, Octavia Spencer winning Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for The Help, the legendary Sidney Poitier presenting the Cecil B. DeMille Award to Morgan Freeman (a.k.a God), and a few cute friendship moments (Tiny Fey photobombing fellow funny lady Amy Poehler, Joseph Gordon-Levitt clapping for presenter and 50/50 co-star Seth Rogan).

Additions to my ‘Need To Watch’ List: Modern Family, Downton Abbey, Mildred Pierce, The Iron Lady, and The Descendants

Best Reaction: Sir Elton John reacting to Madonna’s win in the Best Original Song category.

‘Better Luck Next Time’ award: Leonardo DiCaprio (I felt so bad for Leo. Please, just give him SOMETHING!)

MVP: Uggie, that playful and lovable Jack Russell Terrier from The Artist! He can play dead and excite the audience at the same time!

Best Dressed: Emma Stone in Lanvin. Also liked Zooey Deschanel’s tuxedo nails and what I saw of Kate Winslet, Viola Davis, Dianna Agron, Nicole Kidman, and Evan Rachel Wood.

Tyler Hilton’s “Loaded Gun”

“Stay away from my trigger, I’m a loaded gun.”

Singer-songwriter/actor Tyler Hilton has released his latest single, “Loaded Gun”. This gritty track is from his upcoming album, Forget the Storm, due in 2012.

I’m always thrilled whenever Tyler shares new songs with the fans, and I hope that this upcoming music project of his will incorporate the southern rock vibe that is prominent in “Loaded Gun”.

Be sure to catch Tyler as the deviously charming Chris Keller on the final season of One Tree Hill every Wednesday at 8pm on the CW.
