Glee in NYC

So here’s what you missed this month on Glee… Since saying so long and farewell to the New Directions Glee Club, the Lima guys (Blaine, Sam, and Artie) plus Mercedes have joined their friends Rachel, Kurt, and Santana in the city that never sleeps – New York City! The permanent switch in scenery (for the remainder of Season 5, anyway) was long overdue, and the change has lead to more mature storylines (such as exploring the struggles between balancing your career aspirations with your personal relationships, with much less backstabbing and cheating as catalysts for conflict thankyouverymuch) and stronger musical numbers (including more Broadway-esque songs, naturally) for this talented bunch. And of course, I can never get enough of the gratuitous glory shots of my favourite city on planet Earth. Already, the Gleeks’ adventures in the Big Apple have lead to some major memorable moments…

Phillip Phillips’ “Raging Fire”

Raging Fire” is the lead single from American Idol winner Phillip Phillips‘ forthcoming sophomore album, Behind the Light, due out this year.

Penned by Phillips with the writers responsible for “Gone, Gone, Gone“, the track sounds like a cross between the aforementioned song and his first single, “Home” and has all of the ingredients that made those songs huge successes.

With his signature blend of a moving beat, jammin’ instrumentation, a catchy chorus (with lyrics like, c’mon, c’mon, c’mon, won’t you turn my soul into a raging fire?), and a sweeping vibe, “Raging Fire” sounds as if it will be a surefire hit on the airwaves!

The past year has been a whirlwind for the singer/songwriter, with “Home” going five times platinum, and his debut album The World From The Side Of The Moon and “Gone, Gone, Gone” both reaching platinum status, along with touring with his music heroes, John Mayer and Bruce Springsteen.

Starting this Saturday, Phillip will embark on his first Canadian headlining tour throughout March – the full schedule is listed on phillipphillips.com.

Phillip Phillips’ “Raging Fire” is available on iTunes.

Book Review: Traitor’s Blade

Sebastien de Castell’s first novel, Traitor’s Blade follows the adventures of Falcio val Mond and his companions Kest and Brasti in their determined fight to uphold the Greatcoat values of fairness and justice across the kingdom of Tristia – ideals which have been tossed aside by the lawless, corrupted, and abusive regime of Dukes, who have taken over the land. Formerly the protectors of the King Paelis, the once mighty fighting guard of Greatcoats were branded as “traitors” who stood by as the ruler was overthrown and murdered. The traveling defenders, now disbanded and despised by the people, are considered lower class than peasantry. Despite the odds and forces stacked against them, the three fallen heroes try to fulfill the King’s last mission and save this territory on the verge of collapse, risking death at every turn. Events lead them to embark on a quest that will change their fates forever.
