Album Review: Michael Buble’s “To Be Loved”

As per tradition, Michael Buble‘s new album To Be Loved brings back swingin’ standards and old favourites treated with the Canadian crooner’s classy yet cool modernized interpretations.

This time around, the smooth-voiced singer presents his renditions of the Bee Gees (“To Love Somebody”), Smokey Robinson (“Who’s Lovin’ You”), Frank Sinatra (“Come Dance With Me”), and Jackie Wilson (the title track, “To Be Loved), and features special guests in the forms of actress Reese Witherspoon (“Something Stupid”), acappella group Naturally 7 (“Have I Told You Lately That I Love You”), and the retro vocal trio The Puppini Sisters (“Nevertheless (I’m In Love With You)”) for some inspired collaborations.

Nostalgia is a running theme throughout this album, which is evident by the choices of “You Make Me Feel So Young” and “Young at Heart” as the opening and closing tracks.

On that note, my favourite cover on this record is Bublé’s jazzified version of Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” – otherwise know as the theme song to the childhood classic, Toy Story.

The album also includes four original songs co-written by Bublé: “I Got It Easy”, “Close Your Eyes”, “After All” (with Bryan Adams), and the lead single, “It’s A Beautiful Day“.

Michael Bublé is Old Faithful when it comes to making music that makes people swoon and smile, and To Be Loved is guaranteed to have listeners swooning, smiling, and supremely satisfied!

Candice Glover Slays “Lovesong” On American Idol

Let us accept Candice Glover for who she really is – a superstar!

This week, the Top 6 on American Idol were invited to sing a song they wish they had written, which allowed for the contestants to show the world who they are as artists.

Accepting the challenge, Miss Candice, who has been the most consistent performer to date, completely pulverized the night with a powerful and passionate performance of The Cure’s “Lovesong” (which was also covered by Adele).

It was captivating, exquisite, and best of all, a showcase of Candice’s uniquely mature musicianship and inventively jazzy artistry. Her rendition made me cry and rewarded her with standing ovations from the entire studio audience (you could feel the energy from the television set – amazing!) “Lovesong” was the first true moment of this season and one of the best performances across all of the seasons (and so deserving of Mariah Carey’s glitterbomb blessing!).

Keep on slaying, Candice!

Joshua Ledet Brings Memphis Soul to the White House

On April 9th, the standing ovational Joshua Ledet sang his passionate rendition of Percy Sledge’s “When A Man Loves A Woman” (one of his many highlights from Season 11 of American Idol) for PBS’s musical tribute to Memphis Soul at the White House. He had the entire audience on their feet – including President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

Every time I watch Joshua perform, I am blown away by his phenomenal talent. His voice is one of the few that can move me to tears and inspire to me to not only rise up and give him a deserved standing O, but to get up and do something just as amazing with my own life. I think that’s a truly special gift for a musician to have!

Jessica Sanchez and Ne-Yo’s “Tonight”

Diva-in-training Jessica Sanchez is about to launch into stardom!

The American Idol Season 11 runner-up returned to the stage that started it all to share the story of her journey since last May’s finale – and what a ride it has been!

From experiences with international tours, performing at special events, and modelling, to an upcoming guest appearance on Glee, the frontier is looking real bright for Sanchez.

Her first single, “Tonight”, which features R&B musician, Ne-Yo, is a fun, fresh, funky, and fabulous dance track about escaping from the stresses and drama of everyday life.

The duo debuted the live performance of the song on Idol, and Sanchez unleashed her BB Chez alter-ego by singing and dancing it up a storm like a dynamo.

If her re-introduction is any indication, Sanchez’s career as a young R&B/Urban artist is going be astronomical!

Jessica Sanchez’s debut album, “Me, You & The Music” will be released on April 30th and is currently available for pre-order on iTunes, Amazon, and JessicaSanchezOfficial.com.
