DeAndre Brackensick’s “Her Crazy”

Since his standout stint on the American Idol Live! Tour last summer, Season 11’s DeAndre Brackensick signed with the independent label, Truth Records, and now, has just released his first single! In the music video for “Her Crazy”, the unique-voiced DeAndre sings about his infatuation with a girl who is unpredictable and risque as he wanders along the beach and through a wild party. This laid back tune with a groovy reggae vibe is the perfect jam to get you in the summertime mood!

Gavin DeGraw’s “Best I Ever Had”

“A declaration of love along a trail of cross-country chaos” is the best way I can describe Gavin DeGraw‘s “Best I Ever Had”.

With his new single, the soulful singer-songwriter experiments with an evolved style – comprising of the Americana-folk sound that has become popular in current music and free-spirited lyrics speaking of drones, clones, hipsters, and neon gypsies. It’s the perfect song for summer road trips – and you’ll be sure to be singing along to the shoutouts towards different states!

I passed the longest sign on the interstate
Saying “Find someone before it gets too late”
You’re the best I ever had
I won’t be the same

Kree Harrison’s Grand Ole Opry Debut

Ask any Country musician what their ultimate goal is, and they’ll say that the grandest achievement out there is to perform at the Grand Ole Opry.

On June 4th, American Idol Season 12 runner-up Kree Harrison saw her lifelong dream come true when she made her debut on the show that made Country music famous.

Keith Urban, who championed Kree on Idol this past season as a judge, introduced her by bestowing tremendous praise for her pure voice and warm spirit. Overwhelmingly speechless and incredibly gracious for the opportunity, Kree treated the Opry audience and listeners to three performances – her first single, “All Cried Out”, a hymn (in honour of her late father), “In The Garden”, and Kris Kristofferson’s “Help Me Make It Through The Night” (accompanied on guitar by Keith Urban).

It was a true full circle for the rising Country artist, who had been envisioning this moment since she was a 10-year old singing prodigy on The Rosie O’Donnell Show. Also worthy of mention, on that same week, Kree joined one of her biggest inspirations, Wynonna, on stage at 3rd & Lindsley, for performances of “Love is Alive” and “Grandpa“.

Catch Kree and the American Idol Top 11 on their summer tour this July and August! See the list of dates on AmericanIdol.com

SFU Convocation 2013

On June 14th, I graduated from Simon Fraser University!

The day of my convocation was quite crazy. It rained (typical Vancouver!) and I fainted (causing me to miss walking in the bagpipes-led procession, but I was compensated with a prime seat in the front row), but I finally crossed that stage after six years of school!

It was a true honour to be inducted into the SFU Alumni with the talented individuals from the Faculty of Communication, Art & Technology. Congratulations to all of the new grads from the Class of 2013!

Now, can someone please tell me…
What Do You Do With A B.A. in (Communication and) English?

Life Lessons Learned From… University

It’s graduation season! As students celebrate the end of their studies and get ready to move on to the next phase of their lives, it’s time to reflect back on memories made during their university experience.

After six years at Simon Fraser University, I have quite the rich collection to draw from. Throughout the good and the bad, and the sweet and the challenging, there was always a profound lesson behind everything I encountered along the way to the final stop of this journey.

Before I depart from this post-secondary community and venture off into the real (and daunting) world out there (*gulp*), here are some words of wisdom that I’d like to pass on…
